Madison's proximity to five lakes means a multitude of recreational opportunities exist for visitors and residents alike. Boating is great fun here whether you prefer power or sail. Sportsmen of all sorts can find exceptional hunting and fishing in the area. And, hikers and mountain bikers will find a numerous trails near the shore of Lake Mendota.

The Square is home to the Wisconsin State Capitol, a slightly shorter replica of the U.S. Capitol, which is made from over forty types of stone from six countries.

If you are ready for a little underground adventure, take the 30-mile drive to Cave of the Mounds National Natural Landmark. Here you can enjoy guided tours along lighted walkways, mine for gemstones, and dig for fossils.
